Tell us a little bit about you:
I currently work in local government as part of a cultural development team, helping to manage several writer development programmes as well as arts and heritage projects.
Having studied graphic design at Essex University I worked primarily as a freelance designer in the music industry before turning my hand to project management.
Music is the other great passion of my life and when I’m not tending to my chilli crop in the garden, I play guitar in a particularly loud progressive rock band.
What do you like most about your craft?
I get a huge amount of satisfaction from the entire creative process, wrestling the initial idea into a rough draft which I can then hone into a finished piece.
What inspires/influences you?
Film, music, art and literature all influence my work, but without wanting to sound too pretentious, my main inspiration comes from emotional honesty in whatever form that may be.
What are you working on at the moment?
I recently completed a sci-fi novel which I’m interested in seeing what I can do with and I’m also at the very early stage of writing a crime thriller novel.
We at Good Guy Publishing are mad on books, what are you reading at the moment?
Dark Eden by Chris Beckett
Which three books would you list as your favourite all-time reads?
A very tough question, but at a stretch I’d have to say:
Foundation by Isaac Asimov
I am Legend by Richard Matheson
Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
What are your hopes for the future?
Just to carry on producing more work and see where it leads.
Do you have any advice for anyone wishing to follow in your foot-steps?
The old saying of, “don’t get it right, get it writ”, has helped me a great deal in the past in that you just need to get your ideas down on paper instead of worrying about all the small details and whether it’s right or not.
