Tell us a little bit about you:
I live in Hertfordshire and have done for most of my life. At the moment, I am a student and I write during my free time (what little I have!). As well as this, I enjoy playing the viola, horse riding and, ultimately, reading. My favourite genres are fantasy, sci-fi and horror, which makes for an interesting combination! Especially when you find that odd book which combines all three…
What do you like most about your craft?
The freedom. As your fingers touch the keyboard, you are set on a journey where you choose every twist and turn, every obstacle and every success. There are infinite opportunities waiting to come into existence as you put them on paper, and you know that you alone can create what you have produced.
What inspires/influences you?
The most accurate response I can give is ‘everything’. Each work I read is an influence to my own. I constantly review my techniques and try new things based on what I have read. I like to take my inspiration from nature and photography, as well as those interesting ideas that pop into your head when you’re least expecting it.
What are you working on at the moment?
A new idea for a sci-fi short story.
We at Good Guy Publishing are mad on books, what are you reading at the moment?
‘The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon’ by Stephen King. I love it so far!
Which three books would you list as your favourite all-time reads?
That’s a difficult question. There are so many to choose from! One would have to be ‘It’ by Stephen King- If I wasn’t scared of Clowns before reading it, I certainly am now. For the second, I think ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’. All of the Harry Potter books are good, but this is my favourite. Thirdly, a book called ‘Death Most Definite’ by Trent Jamieson. This is part of an amazing series, which I have read many, many times, and am still not tired of!
What are your hopes for the future?
I hope to finally write that novel that has been stewing in the back of my brain for all these years.
Do you have any advice for anyone wishing to follow in your foot-steps?
Just go for it! If you like to write, then the worst that can happen is that no-one will appreciate it, and at best the possibilities are endless. If you have a passion, then no-one can stop you from fulfilling your dreams!
